Dolphins Put Braxton Berrios On IR, Activate Cam Smith
The Miami Dolphins have placed receiver Braxton Berrios on injured reserve and activated cornerback Cam Smith from injured reserve, the team announced Wednesday.
Berrios Out for the Season
Berrios suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during the Dolphins' 27-15 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. The injury occurred on a punt return in the first quarter. He had two catches for 22 yards before exiting the game.
Berrios is a key contributor for the Dolphins, serving as their primary punt returner and a valuable slot receiver. He has 22 catches for 198 yards and a touchdown this season.
Quote from Mike McDaniel
"Braxton is a tough and resilient player," Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said. "We know he will come back stronger from this injury. We wish him a speedy recovery."
Smith Returns from Absence
Smith, a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, missed the first five games of the season with a hamstring injury. He played in the Dolphins' loss to the New York Jets in Week 5 before landing back on injured reserve.
Smith, 22, is expected to start opposite Xavien Howard in the Dolphins' secondary.
Quote from Vic Fangio
"Cam is a talented young player," Dolphins defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said. "We're excited to have him back on the field. He's a physical presence and a ballhawk."
Outlook
The Dolphins are 2-5 this season and have lost four straight games. They will face the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Ford Field.
