Ace Bailey's Rutgers Career Begins With 17 Points, Win
## Ace Bailey Lights Up RAC Debut with 17 Points, Rutgers Triumphs
### Stellar Start for Freshman Sensation
Piscataway, NJ - Freshman guard Ace Bailey made an immediate impact in his Rutgers debut, pouring in 17 points to lead the Scarlet Knights to a 76-64 victory over Coppin State at the RAC on Monday night.
### Bailey Ignites Offense
Bailey showcased his potent scoring ability from the outset, draining a pair of three-pointers in the opening minutes to set the tone for an impressive offensive display. He continued to attack the basket aggressively, getting to the free throw line six times and converting all but one attempt.
"Ace has a natural scorer's mentality," said Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell. "He's not afraid to take shots and has the confidence to make them."
### Strong Team Effort
While Bailey was the star of the show, the Scarlet Knights received contributions from several players. Ron Harper Jr. added 15 points and four assists, while Cliff Omoruyi contributed a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Caleb McConnell, known for his defensive prowess, also chipped in with 12 points and six assists.
### Coppin State Fights Back
Despite Rutgers' strong start, Coppin State mounted a second-half comeback, cutting the lead to single digits with just over 10 minutes remaining. However, crucial baskets from Bailey and Harper Jr. helped the Scarlet Knights maintain their advantage and secure the victory.
### Looking Ahead
With the win, Rutgers improves to 1-0 on the season. They will face Lehigh next at the RAC on Thursday, November 10. As the season progresses, Bailey is expected to play a key role in the Scarlet Knights' quest for success.
"I'm just trying to do my part and help the team win," said Bailey. "I'm excited to see what the future holds."
